Active sync on S30
First of all, active sync is not needed. Not supported by S30, think you can edit the registry or something to make it work, but who the hell cares? Works perfectly with explorer and copy/paste.

Installing software
installing other software is really easy, the thing i had problem with from beginning is how the hell to start them. To install a application you just put it in the "Program Files"-folder on the main memory of your device. To start the game you have to create a shortcut, this is the part i did miss.

Shortcuts
To create a shortcut you must first navigate to the "Program files\Unlock"-folder. In this folder you will see two important folders named "Desktop" and "Programs". The desktop folder is shortcuts for the... desktop(?), and the program folder is the small menu in the corner.
To create a shotcut you make a new .txt-file anywhere on your computer. Open it up and write the following:
<number of characters including quote marks>#"fullpath"

Code:
47#"My Flash Disk\Program Files\Miomap\miomap.exe"

*This is a working shortcut for miomap.exe which is "installed" in the "Program files"-folder on the main memory of the S30*

The number of characters for the full path, including the ", should be put in the beginning followed by a #. After you wrote this in the .txt, you save it and rename it to whatever you want, followed by the extension ".lnk". And then you put it in the folder where you want the shortcut to end up, desktop or menu.

*Note*
If you have the option "Hide extensions for known file types" you cant rename the file after you saved it, windows will automatically append a .txt to the file and thus the shortcut wont work on the gps. In any explorer window you chose Tools -> Folder Options -> View -> "Hide extensions for known file types".

You can use word or Open office function to count characters. This way you can be sure its right.

If you create the the shortcut using word or Open Office, remember you cant use qoutationmarks from any font, apparently. Wont work if you do, i tried Razz

Think you can use the ones you write in notepad, think its terminal font?
If you are unsure, just copy and paste the ones in this post.

If I missed something, go ahead and ask.
Hope that will help you Wink

*edit
I tested Miomap on my S30, with success. Dont know about the other gps software.

I have S30 unlocked & got IGO8 working & have put working shortcuts on the desktop. My next step is to try to get the Backlight up to max when running IGO8.

I want to automate this at startup

I can run MortScript at startup but I have to click ok when the message is displayed "mscr and mortrun extensions registered........"

Startup then runs the mscr script manually to start SMartST & kills it leaving the backlight set to max.

The backlight stays at max now for the session!

But how do I automate all of this so i don't have to manually intervene?
i.e Can I run Mortscript silently (with no confirmation needed)?

The S-Series Unlock Hack and the Mio Moov Unlock Hack are working a little bit different. So if you used the older S-Series Unlock Hack I suggest to uninstall them and install the Mio Moov Unlock Hack instead of it.

The Mio Moov Unlock Hack is using the Autorun.mscr file in the Unlock folder to set the brightness to max automaticly - you do not have to configure that.

If you do not want this please empty or remove the Autorun.mscr file.

Thanks Tahtu,
You're doing great work here so I hope you can answer my questions:

- I'm a bit afraid of trying this new hack after reading the thread where people are losing access to their hardware - is this a recoverable situation? Mine is a Navman S30 - is it just a matter of pressing the hard reset button at the side above the earphone socket?

- I'm not sure how I did the original hack? - I know I couldn't get the S30 to boot from the SDH card (4 gB). How can I check & uninstall it?

- I have IGO8 running from my internal flash card - it fits because my country map is so small (Ireland). But if I want to access another country map, is there any way I can just have IGO access the maps on SDH card or do I have to have a whole IGO8 implementation on SD card?

add the following to end of AppStartupSec.mscr to get it to load with full screen brightness.

DeviceFile = RegRead("HKLM", "SOFTWARE\Unlock", "InstallDir") & "\Device.ini"
SmartST = IniRead(DeviceFile, "Files", "SmartST")
Run(SmartST)
SmartST = SubStr(SmartST, ReverseFind(SmartST, "\") + 1)
WaitFor(SubStr(SmartST, 1, Find(SmartST, ".") - 1), 2)
Kill(SmartST)

Yes, you will need a full separate install on the SD card.
Better off just using the card.

All hacks run off the Navman, not an SD card. Not sure if Navman supports SDHC cards but read somewhere they may do so the 4Gb card may work.
By the way, 2Gb SD cards are €15 in power city - if you were looking for one in a store. €30 everywhere else.

Thanks xd_data,
I'll try what you say! Edit: I just went into S30 but can only find AppStartup.txt in root?

Thanks for the Powercity budget buy on SD cards - from a fellow country man, I see! I'll spring for one of these - it doesn't feel like mugging at this price.

I got my 4 Gb card on-line for €12.40 but but add shipping and vat to that - brings it to €30 - still cheaper than what I could find in town €40 for 2Gb. Edit:BTW, the 4Gb card is readable in the S30 but just couldn't run hack from it (Fat32, maybe?)

I use the card in a camera and just thought that on holidays it could be useful to have all the maps. Was recently in Venice and kept getting lost on walkabouts (even with map) which is a fun way of discovering the city but when tired and you want to get back to hotel, it's good to have assistance!

Here's how I've implemented it:
- I have two link files in Startup folder: Mortscript.lnk & Backlight.lnk

- Mortscript contents: 49#"\My Flash Disk\Program Files\MioBT\MortScript.exe"

- Backlight.lnk contents: 37#"\My Flash Disk\Desktop\Backlight.mscr"

- Backlight.mscr contents:
Run("\My Flash Disk\Program Files\Navman\SmartST_CE\SmartST_CE.exe")
WaitFor("SmartST_CE", 2)
Kill("SmartST_CE.exe")

This runs fine except Mortscript.exe puts a message on the screen which has to be exited out of - no big deal really but just thought I could run it silently - how does the new hack run it?

What do you mean run the hack from it?
Do you mean install it from it?

The hack is read from the SD card (if you use that method) and installed on the S30 Flash Disk memory.
And are you talking of the old S-series hack where you have to name the folder with the contents of the zip file on the SD to "S30"

Look for AppStartupSec.mscr by connecting the Navman S30 to the computer and open the drive for the Flash Disk drive and go to Program Files folder. Cant remember if it is in the Navman or the Unlock folder. Should there somewhere.

€40! Typical of the stores here and dupping people into buying them at such a high price - like HDMI cables.
I got the Toshiba 2Gb one in powercity by the camera for €15.95. Thought id trust that better for the extra euro.

Why is mortscript in your Bluetooth folder? How did it get there?
What message comes up?
So you are running a link to mortscript on startup. But where is it directing to run mortscript?
You may as well try putting mortscript.exe and that backlight file into the startup folder - not a shortcut file.

Yes, that's the way I tried it but it didn't work

That's what I did but no AppStartupSec.mscr anywhere - I didn't do the
mio_moov unlock method - I can't remember how I got it unlocked - doh!

Oh so that's what the MioBT stands for - I just put it in there?
The message that Mortscript has been loaded and will now accept mscr files!

I posted the details incorrectly & went back & changed them after your post, sorry!
