Yeah i know. And what i wrote earlier will get this sorted for you. You need to connect it to the computer and follow my instructions to get a shortcut for FilemanCE so you can then work with the device.

Note: Smart ST will always require a hard reset to get back to WinCE desktop as there is no option to exit the program

A soft reset should be fine too.

If you can get the start menu the ITaskMgr program allow to terminate program.

... but both solution are available only if you started SmartST via start menu. By starting it via Desktop you cannot use the start menu.

PS
Maybe I should attach a Off / Suspend program the Unlock Hack?

Hi Tahtu

How do you do a soft reset from SmartST? I can only seem to exit it by doing a hard reset ie. hold down power button for ~ 5 secs.

I havent tried launching iGo or SmartST from the start menu so that is probably why i cant access the start menu other than by exiting the programs.

Adding suspend program to the unlock hack would be a good idea. We also need to a find a way of getting the power button to be able to suspend the pna from any program. I have been looking into this but not fully sorted yet. Will let know if i get it working before someone else does.

Looking into the Navman I have this folder structure which I'm unsure about: (I had to put it in a txt file attached)

Is this correct? I'm thinking I'll try and set it up manually if somebody could tell me the correct folder structure and the contents?

Edit: I know I attached a txt file but it doesn't show - ah I didn't upload
http://www.fast-files.com/getfile.aspx?file=18560

Edit: Just looked at this and you have to fill out a survey just to download the file - bummer - Here's where you can get it without surveys: http://www.4shared.com/dir/8766282/bd8fc16a/Navman.html

So looking at the content of that text file. You have it all fine.
You just need to add correct shortcuts to the desktop and programs folders.
See my previous post to create shortcut to filemanCE which should be in the unlock folder.

Example for SMARTST without using Fileman to create shortcut
In notepad copy and paste
63#"\My Flash Disk\Program Files\Navman\SmartST_CE\SmartST_CE.exe"

Save this as SmartST.lnk - make sure the extension is lnk and not SmartST.lnk.txt

May depend on your view settings on your computer.

For FilemanCE
51#"\My Flash Disk\Program Files\Unlock\FilemanCE.exe"

For iGo8
44#"\My Flash Disk\Program Files\iGo8\iGo8.exe"

I guess the folder structure was OK !
I treated the unlock folder as the new root & put shortcuts in its desktop subfolder and they all work: IGO, FilemanCE, TRE, ITaskMgr
except SmartST which just seems to reboot (I had to restore SmartST.exe & associated files from backup)

I wouldn't mind losing SmartST but I need it to turn on the max backlight, I think?
Any help?

I figure it's a registry problem - I exported the registry when I took a backup but it won't let me export it now (it gives a fatal error) to compare the two

OK, I'm looking through the installation files to try & figure out what it does during the unlocking process so I can try fix up the SmartST starting problem.

All the writing of registry entries takes place in the HackFile.mscr except for a one line in Install.mscr where the comment says "backup registry settings if needed" but doesn't do any backup that I can see.

Reading through it, it sets a number of Local machine (HKLM) locations & then updates Autorun.reg entries into the registry which seem to just change the time zone, clock, wallpaper, volume, etc.

I've looked through the registry to find any references to SmartST and found it in HKLM/SOFTWARE/Apps/NAVMAN SmartST CE - two entries:
- BaseDir = \My Flash Disk\Program Files\Navman
- InstallDir = \My Flash Disk\Program Files\Navman\SmartST_CE
both of which seem correct?

Can anyone confirm?

Can anyone suggest why SmartST_CE is not running but just does a reboot?

Has anyone found another way to maximise screen brightness?

OK, I found some logs that are created in the Navman root called
app_asrt01.txt (the number increases for each log file created). Anyway here's the contents which seem to contain a number of failed operations - can anybody compare to their version and post it here?

According to this log I'm missing two files device_settings.ini and default_settings.xml from ....\SmartST_CE\UserData\

One other thing - I did a search of the SmartST_CE.exe file for the text string "bright" and found this "\src\brightnessmgr.cpp"

So there is some code in the exe to change the brightness! Sorry if this is obvious but I guess it means there is probably no registry setting to do this?

OK, this is looking like my diary of Navman unlocking but I got SmartST working - I must have taken some critical data out of the UI folder as I ran out of room during my restore of the SmartST maps folders - this is 111MB (for Ireland & UK) and I only have 59MB free so I just reloaded the Ireland maps, a mere 8.5MB.

I don't know how all this fit in the Navman before? The unlock folder only takes up 372KB? Is the disk allocation changed in some way during the unlock?

If I'm sure this log will not be written while the Unlock Hack is installed, since the AppStartupSec.exe is overwritten on your device.

Tahtu,
This is the log alright - it created files app_asrt00.txt to 26.txt so far & I checked the files date & time = Navman Date & time

I see in Program Files/Navman there is an AppStartupSec.exe & .bak (& .mscr) but they are both the same size (7.5KB), date & Time?

xd, I think the correct link for Power Off is here: http://classic.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=14503

It's a zip which expands to two cab files & instructions for installation

So you lost your original AppStartupSec.exe program.

I don't know what happens on your device - both, the S-Series and the Mio Moov Unlock hack are having a checking not doing this what you are describing.

All I read from you sounds very confused for me - so I think you made any mistake. But as far as I know you you are sure it was me who made a mistake with the follow you device is demaged.

Both of us has to live with this I think...
