Navigon 6.05 PNA (not PDA)
Requirements
Navigon 6 (WM2005 QVGA) works on the iCN520. As with Miomap, you can't install Navigon on the Navman directly. You'll have to copy it from a Windows Mobile 2005 PNA device. Again, the easier option is to download a cracked version. But only do that if you own the software.
Have a look at this video to see the structure of the [MN6] folder.
Copy a dummy aygshell.dll to [Storage Card/MN6]
Unpack Navigon6_iCN.zip on your [Storage Card]. Replace any existing configuration files.
*.map files go in the root of the [storage card]. From the video you'll see that I'm using the British Isles map. Navigon will crash without maps.
Monitoring the GPS signal has been implemented very oddly in Navigon. You'll only gain access to the GPS status button when the navman has a strong connection to a satellite. Once the configuration files are replaced with the ones in the zip file it can take up to 20 minutes to initialise the GPS receiver for the first time. Be patient, it will work.
Keycodes can be remapped to fit the Navman in UserSettings.default. Delete UserSettings.xml after every change.
Since I don't have TMC on my device I've disabled it in the settings file. You can re-enable TMC in UserSettings.default if you know which port to use. |

First impressions:
● Has the best POI database, but it slows the system too much.
● Over seas route calculation works.
● Map auto-switching works.
● 7 digit postcode search isn't very accurate. My pcode is two miles off target.
● Main program is sloooooow.
● On screen text and icons are too small.
● Changing the GPS settings is unfriendly.
● Interface isn't as easy to use as Tomtom or Miomap, but it's better than SmartST2005.
The Test:
Calculate a route from a house in N. Ireland to a house in Mainland UK
Route length:
Navman - 378 miles (N. Ireland -> R. Ireland -> mainland UK)
Tomtom - 370 miles (N. Ireland -> R. Ireland -> mainland UK)
Navigon - 421 miles (N. Ireland -> mainland UK)
Miomap/iGO 2006 - 421 miles ( same route as navigon)
Although longer, the route calculated by Navigon and Miomap made more sense.
Conclusion: Navigon v6 wins the POI battle, but the new Tomtom 6.60.1199 maps win out on road detail for UK and N.Ireland (but not R.Ireland). Although the main Navigon interface seems sluggish, route calculations for long journeys are much faster than Tomtom; over 3 times faster if my maths are right. It's probably unfair to compare times with the Navman since the UK/Ireland maps contain less detail on this system.
This would be a great application to use on a faster processor and a larger screened device. 300Mhz and 3.5 inches just aren't enough. |

I don't know about the availability of the software outside Europe.
It's been out for some time over here pre-installed on PNAs. After the last update I think it's now called Navigon v6.1. I'm using v6.05 on the iCN 520 |

Navigon 6.1 PNA
First Impressions
● New Log Book feature added
● Noticeable speed increase to the interface and route calculation engine.
● Icons and text are still too small.
● Exiting Navigon now switches off the Navman and soft resets it when restarted.
Same route above now takes 37.615 seconds. Someone please post a new graph. My MS Office 2007 trial expired so I can't update the image. It doesn't have to look the same. Thanks! |

To fix the shutdown and reset problem when exiting, do this:
In MN6\Settings\ApplicationSettings.xml
modify the line
< ExitBehaviour >1</ExitBehaviour >
to
< ExitBehaviour >0</ExitBehaviour > |

Are you running the PNA or PDA version of Navigon? Only the PNA version will work on the Navman. Do you see a file called HW_PNA.dll? If you see HW_PDA.dll in the MN6 folder, you're using the wrong version.
For more information open the version.xml file. What are the contents of that file?
If you're using the proper PNA version it should look something similar to this. Note the contents of the <platform> tag.
| Code: | <config>
<mn6>
<version>6.1.0</version>
<brand>NAVIGON</brand>
<platform>PNA</platform>
</mn6>
<content>
<ovm>
<name>PoiWarner</name>
<version>1.1.0</version>
</ovm>
</content>
</config>
|
One other thing you could try is to delete the gx.dll file in the MN6 folder. |

Yeah, you're not wrong about it being sloooow.
Miomap should run without any problems on the iCN510, as long as you have the latest version of GAPIforHPC installed on your device. Delete the gx.dll file that is included in the Miomap folder, so that the GAPIforHPC gx.dll driver is used instead.
With the latest Jan 2007 build of Miomap 3.2 you might have to play about with the sys.txt file settings to get it running in landscape mode. The settings are slightly different for the iCN520 and iCN530. Use the 520 settings first, then Dmart's 530 settings if they don't work for you. |

I was able to install Navigon to iCN510, but when I was using in the car, it was too slow to refresh map, and its not even worth using.
I like the interface, POI and the way Map looks, but my iCN510 is too old to run this program.
