Unlock ICN530 and install XP Style Menu install directions
Unlock and install directions:
Step 1.
Unzip contents of the Compil-En-19112006.zip file to your HDD.
Step 2 - Preparation.
Make a copy/backup of the original Navman 'Appstartupsec.exe' file located at '\My Flash Disk\Navman\Appstartupsec.exe (I simply renamed this file to NavAppstartupsec.exe and left it where it was). This way you can easily restore your Navman to its original condition. If you have previously modified your Navman you will need to "close/kill" any running TaskBar.
Depending on how you have modified your Navman, you may also need to restore the original NavcarCE.exe file. Note for unlocked ICN530 user's with Prz24 unlock solution using NavcarC1 with NavcarCE you may restore original files or just leave these two files and proceed with rest of installation. If you are already using 'Start' and 'Startup' folders on Storage card for Prz24 method you should rename them now (or delete them altogether) to avoid confusion later on.
Step 3 - The unlock files.
Copy the two files 'AppstartupSec.exe' and 'AppstartupSec1.exe' from the newly unzipped directory 'Compil-En-19112006' and paste them into location '\My Flash Disk\Navman'. The provided 'AppstartupSec1.exe' is a copy of the original Navman 'AppstartupSec' that has already been renamed. Rename and use you own if you prefer.
Step 4 - Creating the directorys on Storage Card.
Create following directory structure on your ICN530 Storage Card (The first three MUST be exactly as shown):
\Storage Card\Start
\Storage Card\Startup
\Storage Card\CopyFile
\Storage Card\Program Files
\Storage Card\Program Files\TaskBar
\Storage Card\Program Files\SmallMenu
\Storage Card\Program Files\Keyboard
Step 5 - Placing the files from 'Compil-En-19112006' to '\Storage Card'
Important: place both 'CopyFile.exe' and 'CopyFile.ini' into '\Storage Card\CopyFile' directory.
Make a shortcut for CopyFile.exe and place it in “\Storage Card\Startup”. CopyFile.exe and CopyFile.ini are used to automatically restore files and registry settings lost after a hard reset.
Copy the file 'smenu.exe' to '\Storage Card\Program Files '\SmallMenu' directory.
Create a new 'shortcut' for smenu.exe.
IMPORTANT: Rename the new 'Shortcut to smenu.exe' to 'Demarrer' and then move it into the '\Storage Card\Start' directory.
Copy the file 'ShKeyboard.exe' into \Storage Card\Program Files\Keyboard' directory.
Create a new 'shortcut' for 'ShKeyboard.exe'.
IMPORTANT: Rename the new 'Shortcut to ShKeyboard.exe' to 'keybd' and then move it into the '\Storage Card\Start'directory.
Now create directorys for whatever other programs you intend to use and copy the required program files (exe, ini, dll etc) into the directory.
(Example follows)
\Storage Card\Program Files\Keyboard (contains shKEyboard.exe)
\Storage Card\Program Files\GSF File Manager (contains gsFinder.exe, unlha.dll, unzip.dll)
\Storage Card\Program Files\Calc98CE (Contains Calc.exe, factory.prp 'Help Folder')
\Storage Card\Program Files\TomTom Navigator
\Storage Card\Shortcuts\Navman GPS.lnk (Link to original NavcarCE or if renamed, to link toNavcarC1)
etc....etc...etc... (It is better to keep each of the programs you use in there own directory. Note - you can name these program sub-directorys whatever you like). Don't forget to put the program files into the directorys!!
Make shortcuts for all your other programs and move these shortcuts into SD card '\Shortcuts' directory. If you use CopyFile.ini it will look in the Shortcut directory and copy the shortcut into the new menu when you reset the device (See end of install 7description).
Step 6 - Preparing CopyFile.ini
You will need to modify the CopyFile.ini file to include any programs and files that you use so that the shortcuts are copied into '\Windows\Programs' where the new menu looks for them.
The format for the CopyFile.ini is described inside CopyFile.ini file. A description is also included at the end of this installation guide. No more need to manually edit registry after hard reset.
Step 7 Choose a Menu style.
There are two menus to choose from. The first menu (TasBar1.exe) resembles Windows 'Vista' with a black Startbar and the second menu (TaskBar2.exe), resembles Windows XP having a 'green Start bar'.
Copy whichever one you want to use (or try both if you wish) into \Storage Card\Program Files\TaskBar' directory.
Create a new 'shortcut' for whichever TaskBar you have decided to use.
Rename this 'Shortcut to TaskBar1.exe' to 'TaskBar" and move it into the '\Storage Card\Startup' folder which should now contain two shortcuts (Taskbar.lnk and CopyFile.lnk).
Create a shortcut to '\My Flash Disk\Navman\Lightning\NavcarCE.exe' and place it in '\Storage Card\Program Files\Shortcuts' directory (If using NavcarC1.exe then shortcut shold point to 'NavcarC1.exe'
Step 8. Time to reset.
Once all this has been done, perform a soft reset of you ICN530 by inserting the screen tapping tool into the small hole at the bottom of your device.
Step 9. Using the menu
If you have followed directions carefully a menu will appear. All that remains is to set the clock (date and time) by tapping on the menu clock (right hand side).
a) Next to the time setting on the menu bar is a small icon that is a shortcut to the Keyboard. Tapping the icon will show the keyboard. Tap the icon again to close the keyboard.
b) The left and right arrows on the menu allow you to reach the other programs in the menu bar when more than four programs have been launched.
c) To minimise or restore the menu bar tap on the Windows icon at the left of the menu start bar.
d) To add more entries to the Start menu, place a short cut for the desired program into “\Windows\Programs”. It is a good idea to add a line to the CopyFile.ini file so that when your device is reset, the shortcuts listed in 'CopyFile.ini' will all be automatically copied back into “\Windows\Programs” where the menu can find them. Registry entries can also be restored in this manner (refer to directions contained in the ini file.)
Problems???
All files and directory structures are as shown above? The TaskBar and Appstartup programs look in specific places and expect to find certain files. Make sure you have the paths and names correct as shown above.
No menu when tapping Start bar? - Did you make sure your shortcut to smenu.exe was called 'Demarrer' and that you placed the shotcut in the '\Storage Card\Start' folder.
No keyboard when tapping the keyboard icon on the menu? - Did you rename the keyboard shortcut to 'keybd' and copy it to '\Storage Card\Start'
Using the CopyFile.ini file to copy files or modify the ICN530’s registry:

#
# Examples of how to copy a file:

#FILE=\AddFileSource\File;\AddFileDest\File
#
#FILE=\Storage Card\Files\My File.txt;\Storage Card\Test\My File.txt

# KEY format is shown below with examples for adding or changing Registry KEYs.
# KEY=, no space after KEY ";" no space after semi-colon. Only the names can contain spaces
# Value for the type of key is REG_SZ or REG_DWORD
# the DWORD value must be in Hex

Sorry k_babb I missed your message.
Admin has provided updated link.
Compil has been updated since I modded my 530. I added the new menu but can't see any differences in operation yet.
Still looks nicer than Prz24 menu but Madchris menu has a known bug working with Navman. If you switch unit off and back on the navman buttons won't work until you close and then restart navman with menu. Not a major problem, more of a nuisance really.
Also if you open menu bar and close it again while running navman, you will need to tap screen once to give control over buttons back to Navman program again.
Other than that it is good.
Note - These problems are not experienced with the prz24 menu (but menu look is not as good).
Also on a 530, prz v3 menu doesn't resize when screen is rotated. |

Hi
I got menu running after I made the all 9 steps above, but still I don't have any entries on the start button to select! When I try to use Settings of the small menu, the following error appears: Can not find smconf, please install small menu again. What to do?

Sounds like you don't yet have the shortcuts to your programs sitting in the mobile device's windows\programs directory. Use activesynch and explore the windows\programs directory to see if there are any shortcuts there. I expect you will find it is empty.
If so, did you do a hard reset ? (slider switch on botton to off then on again). Try this first.
I think Copyfile.exe may in fact only run after a hard reset (not soft reset as I stated in step 8 ). Copyfile.exe along with copyfile.ini settings copies your shortcut links into the mobile device's /windows/programs directory which allows them to appear in the smenu unser 'Start'.
If after hard reset you still don't have shortcuts copied to windows\programs you most likely have paths wrong in copyfile.ini. To test if menu is working next manually copy a shortcut into the windows\program dir on your mobile device. Do a 'soft' reset and check start menu again. You should see the shortcut now appear under the Start\Programs menu list.
The settings option smenu doesn't function with the cut down version of winCE on the icn5xx's so don't be concerned about that. Also after using a few days the smenu trial version will change to a slightly to a smaller menu list. This is normal behaviour. |

I have made one mistake in writing the directory names into CopyFile.ini. There were additional space in one directory name, which didn't appeared in iCN510 directory structure. I corrected that and after HW-reset the menu system started to work as explained by dmart.
Thanks a lot for your guidance! |

| Can I connect to the internet with MadChris's Minimo (via activesync) on the iCN520, or is it included in the zip file purely as an offline reader? |

Hi, I've been trying to use this method on my navman icn 520, it seems to use different directories, ie, the AppStartupSec.exe is under
My Flash Disk\Backup and only after swapping this file does the unit do anything different. It then says it cannot find '/Program Files/Navman/Shackleton/NavcarC1' , however this path is also invalid as the origional shackleton folder is also under 'My Flash Disk\Backup, and is called NavcarCE.exe. I tried putting a copy of the shackleton folder into the program files directory (not storage card\program files directory) with a renamed copy of NavcarCE (1), and the unit then starts up and runs as a normal navman. The startup screen shows V3.00.0012 at initial power up, not sure if this mod is intended to work with the 520 or this version of it, but any help would be much appreciated, Thanks |

ok, I just solved this, I had to rename the unlock file named "AppStartupSec.exe" to "NavcarCE.exe" and place it in the
'My Flash\Disk\Backup\Shackleton" directory ( after re-naming the origional NavcarCE.exe file to keep it safe). now it starts up and runs fine |

The ICN units do indeed have different directory structures e.g.
510 : \My Flash Disk\Backup\Ficino
520 : \My Flash Disk\Backup\Shackleton
530 : \My Flash Disk\Navman\Lightning
550 : \cf disk\navman\Socrates
I think original AppStartupSec.exe launches NavcarCE.exe when unit is turned on.
I'm guessing the modded AppStartupSec.exe interrupts this process, looking in Startup and launching Taskbar.exe instead. To launch Navman program the shortcut in Taskbar menu would now need to point to original NavcarCE.exe which is in different location on the 530. Maybe the shortcut to NavcarCE you had was for the 530. It would be invalid on a 510 (it would be pointing to wrong place for your setup).
Did you try creating a new shortcut (NavcarCE.lnk) and loading this into the menu with copyfile.ini?
Anyway, glad you found a way to get it going |

Sorry Piggley, I don't use it so can't answer your question. Give it a try and see |
