I am new here, and not sure if this is the right forum for this post.
I am considering buying a Mio C520 or Navman N60i. I really like that both are hackable, and may do that in the future. Right now however, my primary question is, is the Navman software ware really that bad that I would feel the need to replace it after purchase or is it a decent navigation package?
I would really prefer not to have to replace the software on the device I buy right away.
If anyone has used mio and navman, I would appreciate any comparisons.
Thanks,
Jamy |

Hi Jamy
I use Navman, TT and Mio. To be honest I generally use Navman gps when navigating in areas I don't know. Unit is 530 so may be different to N60i. Maps [my loc] are same regardless if TomTom/Mio/Navman so comes down to voice commands and menu systems. Voice directions are more frequent on Navman eg. at intersections where you don't turn it still says continue (others remain silent) Mio is prettier of the three tho. Whichever you get you will not need to replace any time soon.
Navman has proven to be simple and fun to unlock, and will run many other softwares. |

Problem I had wiith Navman was SmartST took forever to look for satelite, and tend to loose them when I was on Freeway, downtown area. Re-routing was another major issue I had with Navman, it took forever especially you were moving on Freeway.
After using TomTom/Mio I never had problems.
Mine is iCN510, so I can't compare to other models, but I wasn't happy with SmartST at all |

I have a Navman icn530 and I also have mio installed, I wouldn't trust mio to find its way to my bedroom, mio may look nice but when it comes to getting to your destination navman is VERY easy to program, fast to enter your coordinates, and it gets you there with ease.
I'm glad I didn't buy a mio.
Edit.
As for satellite reception, I could dig a hole in the ground and shield myself with lead and the icn530 would find the nearest wormhole and get me out, average time for me is about 15 seconds and that's when I'm indoors, when I'm in the car it can be almost instantaneous, I rarely wait more than 20 seconds.
Edit (again)
I just timed my satellite lock on (indoors UK) 14 seconds and I had a strong signal from 3 satellites (easily good enough) , 26 seconds and I had 7 satellites. |
