Hi everybody,
Can anybody tell me if a 2gb card or more will be ok in my 510. I've got a 1gb card in and thats ok. What with all the stuff on here I'm fast running out of space.
Cheers Dave.

i jsut spoke with Navman Tech support and they told me they dont suppor tanything alrger than a 512mb card. They said youc an use a 1gb card but some of the files would get corrupted over time. They told not to use a 2gb card, but that was only my experience.

SD Cards can be partitioned. You could split a large 2GB card into 4x 512MB (more like 4x480MB if you want to be academic) partitions. That might work. Confused They used to do that in the old days to get around the 8GB Harddisk limit in Windows.

From what I understand with the NAV applications, they expect to be pointed to a single location for the maps. If the purpose is to store more extensive maps for the TomTom software, partitioning will probably not work. Then again, the size limitation may be something within the NavMan software and not inherent in the device.

Thanks for the advice, though!

L.S.,

During two months I use in my Navman ICN510 a Kingston 2.0GB SD Card.
No problems had until now.
Navman navigator and Tomtom 5.21 and Western Europe maps of both programs are loaded.
Further I use on the card several games and utilities.

Succes,

Martin

My 1GB card was working well until I used up over 512MBs. Now I can't seem to load or install any new files on the card, yet all my old applications are still working. Running Scandisk puts the newly added files into the [Found000] folder.

I remember reading somewhere that you shouldn't defrag an SDCard because this can severely affect its lifespan. Although I've never defragged, I have copied and deleted 1000's of files; and installed, uninstalled and reinstalled dozens of applications on the card in the past year.

Maybe the card was always faulty, or maybe the Navman damaged it over time, or maybe the constant file activity on the card caused the fault.

Thanks for the info guys. I've now got a 2gb card in and running and everything seems to be O.K. Watch this space.

I also ventured out and got a 2gb SD card for $40.00. I tried using my desktop to copy the files to it, bad idea as it corrupted everytime, yet when I formatted as FAT in desktop (successful), then put into Navman, I got all the US and Canada maps loaded without a hiccup. Now I can keep a full linstall of TomTom and Navman at the same time.

Sorry I did not write sooner...

SD cards behave oddly.
Had a 1 GB Ultra II Transcend - Never a problem (apart from filling too quickly Wink
Had loan of a 2GB Transcend (Not Ultra) Worked fine till excceed ! GB then TomTom would not launch. Replaced exe no difference. Copied back from 1 GB no difference - Not Work. Put back 1 GB card all fine again.
I think read/write speed is the key. Faster is better (up to a point).
Ultra II is faster than Ultra. 80X and above seem to be the go regardless of size.

The iCN 530 should have problems with sd cards bigger than 512 KB. On my unit a 2 GB SanDisk works fine.

My cheep (15 quid) Datawrite 2gb card is still going strong in my 510. Now the price has dropped even more I may try a 4gb card.

Careful, though -- FAT16 will probably not work for 4GB, so FAT32 may be will... on my PDA, for example, (which is Windows based, too) -- Camera App did not work until you'd have used more than 2GB of these 4... the thing here is - 4GB = 2^32 which uses all bits in a DWORD when defining length...
