Do you grow tired of the boring old window icon appearing that generates on the navman screen after you set up a new application? This can be because the .exe file of such apps don't have an icon within them as a resource. It's not a straightforward process to easily change this default icon, and I tried many recommended solutions without success. The .lnk file editing is cumbersome, and most solutions involve recompiling the .exe.
Here's an easy way I worked out to get it fixed.......
1) Google and find freeware Resource Hacker 3.4 (ResHacker)
2) Make a backup copy of the .exe that you want to work on
3) Find or make an .ico file that you want. 32 x 32 size is good.
4) Start up resource hacker (ResHacker) and select 'File', 'Open'. Choose the .exe file that you wish to change the icon on. (BTW: A great little program for creating and editing your icons is called AZ Icon Editor).
5) Select ResHacker 'Action' menu and then select 'Add a new Resource'
6) Select 'Open file with new resource' box, and select your own .ico file
7) Enter 'Resource Name' as 'icon' and click 'Add Resource' box
Select 'File', 'Save'.
That's it..... Your new .exe with your chosen icon is created as a slightly bigger file. Move the new .exe over to your navman, restart and you should have the desktop appear with your new icon. |
